- The memory of the iMac Retina 27″ can be upgraded by yourself and the Apple manufacturer's warranty is maintained. Apple even offers its own illustrated tutorial online. Can different memory sizes be mixed? Memory modules with 4GB, 8GB and 16GB can be used in each slot and from the end of 2015 also 16GB.

The SSD is comprised of two modules. They are removable, but are paired to the original logic board and data won't be accessible if moved to another iMac Pro logic board. If either SSD card fails or if the logic board needs replacement, the data on the drives will be lost. I suspect this pairing aspect will make third party replacement difficult or even impossible.
Upgrade Ram Imac
The system has two Thunderbolt controllers, each supporting two ports. Each controller is connected via PCIe 3.0 x4. Unlike the MacPro6,1, the PCIe doesn't run through a PCIe sharing switch to split the path.
Some other interesting tidbits are that the Vega GPU is integrated into the logic board and the system power supply is a 500 watt.
While we all want to know the nitty gritty of the system. I would hold off until the great IFIXIT teardown team gives us the unvarnished truth!

How many memory slots are available? What are the combinations of memory sizes and maximum memory size per slot for this model? Do the slots have to be populated in pairs? Can a customer request a specific pairing as opposed to Apple making that decision? And if pairing slots is not required, Can a customer request what size memory for each slot?

While I understand that it is not user installable, knowing the number of slots and the maximum size memory each slot can handle, could determine the amount of memory I select at the time of purchase.
